Review - The Whitlock Motel
This is the third in my series of reviews of Second Life Motels. As I mentioned in the previous reviews, these will be different than my standard hotel reviews as you're not really comparing like with like.
Introduction
The welcome notecard from the Whitlock Motel advertises itself like this:
"Looking for a clean, well lit place to stay? New to the game and don't have a lot of lindens? Need a temporary place between looking for houses to rent or buy? Met someone that you can't take to your own place or go to his/hers in fear of getting caught?
"Then come by Whitlock Motel! You can rent a day, 3 days, 5 days or week. 30 prims for $70 for the week! You must acquire a group tag to rez."
Fair enough, those are all reasons why people might want a cheap, temporary motel place to stay. The Whitlock also has the benefit of being on Sansara, with a road outside so you could rez a car and explore.
So how does it measure up in practice?
The rooms
As mentioned the rooms cost 10L a day or 70L a week. For that you get a simple bedroom, decorated in different styles with a GW Starlight Adult bed.
There is also a bathroom. Regular readers will know I'm actually a stickler if a place includes these or not, it does add to the realisim factor.
Unfortunately the bathrooms here include either a shower or sink....and nothing else. If you are going to install one, why not finish the job?
Facilities
There are none as such, but as this is a Motel that's totally fine. As mentioned there is plenty else you can explore.
Other factors
The room rental box didn't issue me a group tag, and it turns out that the Whitlock Hotel has a very aggressive security system.
Even standing in the parking lot for more than 15 minutes will result in you being turfed out, with the message - "The rooms are NOT free."
I mean, really?
Overall
If you only have a small amount of cash, stay at somewhere like the Ocean View or Kroken Motels instead., which does have decent (if dated) facilities, and from which you can explore SL Norway.
Or, if you actually want a free Motel, I was super impressed with the Motel Sunrise, which is on a really nice national park based sim.
