The Diamond Resort

Over the past few years, while running this website, I've seen a number of underwater resorts come and go. The latest is the Diamond Resort, recently featured in the SL Destinations Guide. Here, guests can stay in pod-style suites surrounded by swimming fish—but at a price.

Overall look and feel

The journey begins at the resort's beachfront landing point, where visitors descend through a passageway leading to the heart of the underwater complex. The main resort area features a reception desk, a restaurant, and a "paint and puff" RP area. Corridors branch out from this central hub, each leading to individual guest rooms.

The resort's design blends elements of futuristic sci-fi aesthetics with an underwater environment. However, some guests may find the lack of clear signposting and instructions challenging. To book a room, potential guests must fill out a Google Doc form provided by the owners. No information or signs tell you this is the case; I contacted the owners directly.

The suites and a few areas are then restricted behind ban lines to guests.

The Diamond Resort's approach to room rentals combines aspects of a private RP resort and a self-check-in resort (see this page for the difference).

Adding rental boxes on the suites and a more comprehensive information system, such as a notecard at the landing point or a HUD similar to those offered by other Second Life destinations, could enhance the guest experience.

The rooms

The suites are priced at either 2000 or 2500 Lindens per night. Each features a downstairs area with an NPC mesh person barman, a bar, a living area, and floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the underwater view.

Upstairs, guests will find a bedroom and a bathroom, the latter offering a glimpse of the aquatic surroundings. The furniture, including beds by Darkfold, is of high quality.

Based on what is on offer, I found the price on the high side. By way of comparison, the excellent premium suite at the Essencia will set you back 1500L, with better decor and facilities..

The facilities

At the Diamond Resort, guests can indulge in a variety of facilities and experiences, ranging from Yoni Steams and massages to romantic dinners and cooking classes. Prices for these amenities are steep, with the most extravagant being a romantic dinner with a live singer for 6000 Lindens per couple.

The resort also boasts a beach area complete with a large water slide, beach loungers, and beach games. I found this part a little busy, and it might be worth removing some of the features for a better experience.

Other considerations

I had few problems with lag

The resort is adult

Prices start at 2000L

Overall

While the Diamond Resort offers something slightly different, its prices may be a barrier for some visitors. Improvements in signposting and streamlining the rental system could also elevate the overall guest experience.

However, given that large resort areas are open, you may find it worth exploring.
