Klar Wellness is not a hotel, so this is not a review in the usual sense. But it is a very considered and well-designed space, and it deserves a write-up.
Tucked into the cliffs of Second Norway, Klar is a high-end Nordic wellness retreat built and run by Elise Fugazi.
The name means "clear" or "to renew" in Norwegian. As the name suggests, Elise has thought carefully about what she is doing. The inspiration, Elise told us during a personal tour, came from a visit to the Aman Hotel spa in Tokyo. Not the look as such, but the feel. She wanted to recreate that sense of unhurried stillness, and transpose it to a Scandinavian setting. Maya & I felt it worked.
You arrive via a hedgerow-lined driveway to a low, modern building. The reception area is dark timber cladding, polished stone floors and understated lighting.
From here, the space unfolds in a logical sequence: Næring, the bar and restaurant (the name means "nutrition" in Norwegian), with a moss-covered feature wall, stone archways and cliff views; a well-equipped gym with mirrored walls, and separate men's and women's locker rooms, complete with robes and slippers.
The treatment spaces are the heart of Klar. There is a hot tub room with geometric tiled walls, steam effects and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the SL Norwegian coastline. A mud bath room that was popular enough that we found a member contentedly asleep in it during our visit. And private treatment rooms with water features and sea views, one of which Elise has sensibly parcelled off separately to account for the adult furniture it contains.
The salon offers haircuts, shaves, manicures and pedicures, with services bookable through the group. But the real highlight is outside.
Klar's infinity pool sits right on the cliff edge, its surface merging seamlessly with the sea below and the Norwegian mountains beyond. It is an excellent pool setting with the kind of view that makes you stop walking and just stand there.
Loungers and parasols line the terrace, and Elise and other team members host meditation sessions on a deck over the water on Mondays, with sound bath events planned. The team tries to offer events across time zones. RP spa treatments are currently included with membership, though a price list of around L$300 per service is in the works.
What struck us most was the sense of community. Klar's staff and members are currently all local Second Norway residents, living within seven sims of the spa. Elise is herself a pilot for Bonaire Airlines, whose airport is a short drive from the retreat, Maya and I have flown with her before. A Blake Sea location is also planned, which would give members a second venue to visit.
At L$100 per month, membership is not expensive. For that you get a beautifully designed space with genuine facilities, MyStory compatibility throughout, regular events, and an owner who clearly cares about the experience. For all those reasons, Klar is well worth a visit.
Dirk and Maya visited Klar Wellness as paying members. The SL Hotel Inspector visits and reviews independently.
