Heated Towels, Hidden Stories and High-End Dining at Lume Morocco ⭐️

The planets never leave the sky at Lume Morocco. They hang there, oversized celestial bodies that create an otherworldly atmosphere, whether it's day or night. This initial design element signals that whilst this is Morocco, it's not attempting to be just another Moroccan destination.

The resort, spread across two full regions in Second Life, represents something entirely new from (design house) Rookie Uncut and owner Callie Jareau Ronin (ninilegacy), with landscape design contributions from vail (vail.evergreen).

Two years ago, Callie created a modest but pleasant polar Airbnb experience. The ambitions were significantly higher this time, and the results were exceptional.

In fact, in four years of covering the SL hospitality landscape, this ranks as one of the most impressive resorts I have been to.

Getting Started

Our visit started at an airport where a 30-minute check-in process set the tone for our stay. This duration proves optimal—some RP-led resorts implement hour-long check-in processes, which can become tedious when you're eager to begin your holiday.

In contrast, this provides sufficient time for staff interactions and orientation. The provided notecards offer comprehensive information - the documentation quality deserves particular note.

This ensures that you understand how everything works before reaching your accommodation.

Where You'll Stay

There's something here for every type of traveller in terms of rooms. Single guests can book the Saeid Hut for L$1,500 a night.  I liked that this was on offer; it recognises that not everyone is in a couple or wants to travel as one.

The Ishtar Abode, where we stayed, costs L$2,500 and offers more space, including a full kitchen, living room, and bathroom with the heated towels mentioned in the headline.

Groups or two couples might prefer the Tarifh Villa, which costs L$4,500 and provides two bedrooms and expanded common areas.

In line with an increasing number of SL resorts, Lume Morocco implements bed engine selection via a menu system on the wall. Options include Ruckus, Darkfold, and CS, the latter of which is a particularly good choice.

Space utilisation and design elements throughout the resort achieve excellence. The aesthetic successfully captures high-end Moroccan hospitality environments.

The Experiences

This is an area where Lume Morocco excels. The dining experience at the Sultan fine dining restaurant is perhaps the best I’ve had in SL.  Maya described it as “next level.” I agree.

The menu maintains focused simplicity (avoiding the overcomplexity in some SL restaurants) while presenting realistic food implementations.

Staff discuss orders and food preparation through voice chat, creating a natural background ambience that enhances restaurant authenticity. Non-voice users maintain full access to all features, as staff will happily switch to text. The meal conclusion includes an unexpected special surprise we won't reveal.

The souk deserves a visit. While NPCs often detract from hotel environments and remind you that you are in SL, they serve a crucial function here. Each merchant provides cultural narratives when engaged, transforming decorative elements into meaningful interactions.

The hookah lounge is a design highlight. This dark green space features interactive pipes that implement subtle camera, vision, and speech effects. Clear documentation on the walls outlines the effect duration and impact, which we appreciated as it gave a clear idea of what to expect. You can also opt out of some of the elements via the hookah menu.

Other standout features include:

- A comprehensive spa

- A modern café balancing contemporary and traditional elements

- An interactive orchard

- A firewalking pit

- An expertly designed pool utilising furniture from innovative creators like TwelveSL, representing best-in-class implementation

Technical Notes

Using a three-year-old Mac Mini, I could run high graphics settings throughout the stay. Whilst some lag manifested occasionally, it never impacted the overall experience. Older systems may need to adjust graphics, though.

Future Plans

Owner Callie confirms a six-month operational window before a new destination is unveiled, so book now before this place is gone. Developments will introduce specialised wellness services and traditional Moroccan BBQ experiences in early 2025.

What Could Be Better

The beach area shows less refinement than other zones, and we wondered if it was added because many guests just expect it. We never actually came here expecting a beach vacation—there is so much else to do. The drunk roller skating area (one of the amenities on offer) requires additional purchases and seems thematically disconnected, though it’s in quite a hidden area, and you won’t come across it unless you are specifically looking.

Practical Details

  • You can’t turn up without a reservation - advance booking required through daycationssl.com

  • Prices range from L$1,500 to L$4,500 per night

  • Operations set to continue through mid-2025

  • Core amenities include spa, dining experiences, hookah lounge, café, pool

  • Lag-wise if you have an older system, you may need to adjust your settings

  • Design credits go to owner Callie, whilst the exceptional landscaping throughout the resort was crafted through collaboration with vail (vail.evergreen). The result is a seamless integration of built and natural environments, creating cohesive spaces that enhance the overall experience.

  • The staff were excellent, including  Aȥα Grαɴт (starr.joles), who welcomed us to the resort and yaboos who looked after us at dinner

  • The resort is moderate. In fact, one of the notecards asks you to dress respectfully at dinner as you would in Morocco itself. Like in an RL resort, adult activities are restricted to the rooms.

Final Thoughts

We rarely schedule return visits while still doing a review. The constant flow of new destinations typically prevents it. Yet we're already planning a return to Lume Morocco. This fact alone demonstrates the destination's exceptional quality.

Early booking is advised—we anticipate high demand as awareness spreads. Highly recommended.
