Review - Ocean Coast Resort
Though Asian Dreams, a taste of Bali, offers guests access to a Fruit Island moored yacht, the Ocean Coast Resort is as far as I know the only resort fully situated in the Fruit Islands.
As a result, I was keen to take a look, especially as I've now sailed in quite a lot in these sims.
Parts of it I liked, but overall it doesn't answer a key question for me - why would you pay to stay here?
Overall look and feel
The Ocean Coast Resort is on a tropical large island, around which the owners have added a series of villas situated over the water.
Quite a lot has been crammed into a small space, hence the beach looks quite busy with loungers, lilos, a greedy table and so on.
Overall, the resort doesn't look bad, but it also doesn't have any kind of 'wow' factor. It looks like dozens of island beach resorts you can find throughout Second Life.
The rooms
The rooms are Maldivan style huts over the water. They are quite nicely decorated, with Bazar furniture, includng adult anims. There's a small pool on each terrace overlooking the water.
The rooms are quite close together, with one in particular being almost next to the adjoining island.
The facilities
The Ocean Coast Resort includes a bar, a beach area, a hot air balloon space, a giant chess set (which is playable) and a restaurant.
The facilities are good, and the owners also appear to have a helicopter, where they can give tours.
The one thing that is worth mentioning is the restaurant, which is Warung (Bali) themed . We thought it was quite strange that all the tables are laid out for large groups - if you are couple you're not in luck (or you can perch yourself at the end of a long table).
Other considerations
I really wondered why more hasn't been made of the fact that this place is in the Fruit Islands.
Offer guests a boat, to explore the 200+ sims, or allow them to rez their own. Produce a map or guidebook. Really so much more could be done here. In fact, many people arriving here would probably have no idea that they are in one of SL's main sailing areas.
For an example of a hotel that does a good job of making the most of its surrounding areas, see Le Chateau, which actively promotes visits around Satori
Is the resort adult? Moderate with adult anims in the rooms
Privacy? The rooms have orbs, they are however quite close together
Prices? 300L a night
Lag? On a 2019 Macbook Pro, I could run graphics on high with 10-20 frames per second. On Ultra that decreased to 5-6
Overall scores
Look and feel - 3/5
The rooms - 3.5/5
Anims - 4/5
The facilities - 3.5/5
Overall
The Ocean Coast Resort is a pleasant enough place to come and hang out for an hour or so, but as I mentioned it doesn't look that different to many other Second Life beach places.
As a result, I don't see a reason to stay here for a short break. If you want a vacation with access to a Fruit Islands yacht, Asian Dreams remains your best bet.
