The Dagmar Hotel
What you need to know
Edit - November 2023. Sadly this hotel appears to have now gone!
Surrounded on all sides by water, The Dagmar Hotel has a kind of boutique feel about it. It’s got everything you expect from a four or five star hotel - a pool, sauna, beach, restaurant, and it’s actually very nicely decorated. Though it only has two rooms from what I saw, everything appears to be free, so go and check it out.
Overall look and feel
The Hotel itself is on island - though sadly it’s not on the mainland so there’s no Blake Sea access. The Dagmar does however include a small body of water with a lighthouse at the other end, so I guess you could use a boat here.
The main building is spread across two floors, the top floor has the restaurant, bar, reception and rooms. There are then stairs leading down to a pool, a bar, a cafe, a rockpool and a garden restaurant.
The owners clearly spent a lot of time on the Dagmar, and it looks pretty good. I am not sure what the purpose of the Hotel is though, as there’s no sign posting or welcome note.
Overall - 4 / 5
The rooms
The two rooms are on the ground floor, to the left of reception. I couldn’t see any rental unit, so I assume they are free to use for now. That also means they aren’t private, though having said that, I saw nobody around the times I visited.
The two rooms also share one fairly large bathroom, so it could be the idea will be to hire it out to groups in the future.
The rooms are on the small-ish side, but even so, thought has been put into the design and the choice of furniture. Both have a Pragma Sex Innovation Luxury Bed.
Overall - 3.5 / 5
Things to do
This place is completely self-service, so you are left to your own devices. The restaurant furniture is from Bazar, so you can conjure up your own dishes, however the tables are set up for larger groups. I myself would suggest hanging out by the pool, which is pretty nice, or by the rock pool, which is couple friendly (PG not adult).
Overall — 3 / 5
Things to know
The Hotel is moderate, adult furniture is in the rooms
Lag was not an issue for me on a new-ish Apple Macbook Pro
Everything appears to be free, though of course the owners may decide to extend and charge in future
Overall
Overall I liked it here. Most free hotels in SL look very dated, and this certainly isn’t the case with the Dagmar. I recommend taking a look and maybe spending a few hours with friends or a signifcant other there.
