Seven Second Life Hotels and Resorts for Valentine’s Day

Taking your significant other to New York or the Maldives for Valentine’s Day would most likely cost you thousands of dollars or euros.  And thanks to the pandemic it’s also not even an option for most of us.

Not so in Second Life, which has a great selection of hotels and resorts complete with five star service, luxury suites, amazing swimming pools, high end restaurants and pristine beaches.  And all that for less than the price of latte and sandwich from your local coffee shop,

As a result, here’s my pick for Valentine’s Day hotels.  These will of course also work for any other romantic break you might have planned throughout the year.

Winter in New York

As the name suggests, Winter in New York, seeks to recreate a snowy New York City in Second Life.  Visit Central Park, have dinner in a restaurant and take a horse drawn carriage tour through the streets.

Accommodation is in a series of hotel suites dotted around the sim, which start at 2500L a night.  You can also stay in the Poconos, a ski resort connected to the main Winter in New York Experience by bus, giving you two vacations in one.

Winter in New York is a closed sim, you need to pre-book and you’re given a group tag just before check-in

Winter in New York changes after Valentine’s Day to become a New York airbnb type experience. For more details, see their Facebook page. After that, the team behind it will be working on an Ibiza-themed resort.

Little Santorini

Travel to the Greek Islands and stay in Little Santorini, a sim from one of my favourite SL builders and designers, Jasmine Kiyori.  Things to see and do include a village with shops, a beach, a vineyard, and one of the best underwater / dive experiences I’ve seen in Second Life.

The villas start at 995L a night, though I recommend paying more for a larger place with a private pool near the top of the sim.

Nobu SL

Nobu SL is a Maldives style beach resort.  At time of writing, this is where we are staying.

A collection of villas are built over the water, and it has a range of features including a restaurant / bar with RP dinner (one of the best we’ve experienced), a gym, a hidden ‘lover’s cove’ and a spa.

There are a lot of tropical / beach resorts in Second Life, and so it’s hard to sometimes stand out, but Nobu manages it.  It’s a really well designed place, with some lovely and very helpful staff.

Prices start at 3000L a night, book via their website and then you’re given an LM to pay a terminal in-world.  It’s a restricted sim so you get your group tag shortly before check-in.

Rizzi on the Beach

The Rizzi is a beachside hotel with what I think is the best hotel pool in SL, two bars, a restaurant, an outdoor terrace and a spa.

It does an excellent job of recreating the look and feel of a five star hotel, for me it triggers memories of places I’ve stayed at in RL.

The large suites are only 500L a night, and the Rizzi now has a penthouse suite with a private pool and three bedrooms for 1700L, and two private villas for 1000L.

Batista’s Getaway

Batista’s Getaway has been around in some shape or form for almost ten years.  It closed last Autumn, was completely rebuilt, and has just reopened with a Zanzibar (the African island off Tanzania) theme.

We have yet to stay here, but we did attend the opening party and on first impressions were very impressed with what the owners have done.

There’s a private airstrip at which you arrive (one of the owners runs Virtual Airlines), a series of nicely designed villas, and an area where you can find animals such as elephants and giraffes.

Prices start at 2500L, like some of the others, this is a restricted sim (you get a group tag on check in).

Hotel Eroyado

Another creation by Jasmine Kiyori, the Hotel Eroyado sits in the wider Korean-Japanese Kiyori urban sims (worth a visit in their own right).

This is a Japanese love hotel, that like its RL equivalents charges by the hour.  The Hotel Eroyado is sexy, creative and funny with some outrageous room themes.

For example, bathe in a giant tub of soy sauce in  ‘Sushi Love’, get a Hello Kitty overload in ‘Hello Kinky’, or have panda themed furniture surround you in ‘Yin Yang.’

Asian Dreams

This is a Balinese-Japanese themed beach resort, complete with Japanese Onsen, Balinese restaurant and beach, and a variety of activities from fishing to jetskis.

When staying here, it’s definitely worth booking the honeymoon suite (547L a night) as not only do you get access to your own private hot tub on the beach, you also have access to the owners’ yacht from which to explore the Fruit Islands (200+ sailable sims).
