The Directory: Every Hotel I Still Recommend in Second Life

(Image - Pino Island, home of the Tuberosa Club and Resort)

Since 2021, this website has reviewed 300 hotels, motels, resorts, and other places to stay in Second Life. But the reality is, SL changes quickly. Sims disappear, owners leave, and a great review from a few years ago might now take you to an empty lot or a "region not found" message.

So I went back and checked every place rated as “Highly Recommended” or “Recommended” to see which ones are still open.

Twenty-one made the cut.

This is the go-to list. All of these places are open and worth teleporting to as of now.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: The Exceptional Eight

These Exceptional Eight destinations stand out as the strongest choice. Note: these are listed in alphabetical order, not in order of preference.

1 - Gran Hotel, Gran Finale

A luxury city hotel in a region where it is permanently, gloriously after dark. Penthouse suites, a polished driveway of luxury cars, a five-star atmosphere at the heart of the Gran Finale lifestyle community.

Best for: luxury seekers, night owls, couples who like their cities neon-lit.

⭐⭐⭐–⭐⭐⭐⭐ RECOMMENDED: Thirteen More Worth the Teleport

3 - Black Lion Super 7 Motel

Free mainland oddity, full of NPCs. The Super 7 is better than you’d expect, while its sister property, the Easy Rest Inn, is a rundown dive with a very dystopian theme. The doors don’t lock. That’s just how things often go on the mainland.

Best for: budget travellers, curious explorers.

This is a creative take on the classic prefab motel, with a ‘story’ in every room. It’s a great place to start a roleplay or to meet up. Not for the faint-hearted. Very adult. (Reviewed by Sarah Tonin)

10 - The 'Sheraton' Hotel, Bryggen

Not part of Marriott Bonvoy, but one of SL’s quirkiest micro-hotels. There are four vintage rooms with faded glamour above a pub in a beautifully rebuilt SL Norway town. L$84/week, and you can arrive by sail, road, or train.

Best for: vintage charm seekers, budget travellers, Norway daydreamers.

This three-region cruise ship from SL’s golden age is now a museum. Suites are free, though some are empty, and you’ll still find a pool, spa, restaurants, mini golf, ice rink, and cinema. It’s a fascinating time capsule.  All PG.

Best for: history buffs, explorers, nostalgia seekers.

This luxury Asian-themed hotel sits in one of SL’s most impressive neon cities. There’s a casino, spa, and a restaurant with views of a Seoul-meets-Tokyo skyline. L$695+/night. The city is worth seeing on its own, but the hotel makes it unforgettable.

✨ A CATEGORY OF ITS OWN: Badu Virtual Destinations

And finally, here’s one that doesn’t fit any rating system:

Badu Virtual Destinations isn’t really a hotel, but a travelling concept where the destination changes every two weeks.

Owner Asha Rhia ("Real places. Virtual worlds.") builds immersive, imaginative RP destinations, each one different from the last. You generally book via the website rather than walking in, and it's too fast-moving for a conventional review, as any article would quickly be out of date.

But every time Maya and I have visited, it’s been an outstanding experience. That’s why it’s on this list: it’s exceptional, unique, and worth checking out to see what’s new.

The experiences are also curated and catered, so you can take part in RP experiences, from dinners to excursions.

Note that occasionally, Asha Rhia offers on-the-spot, Airbnb-style, turn-up-and-go bookings; these are generally announced on Facebook.

Best for: roleplayers, repeat visitors, anyone looking for a fully catered vacation experience in SL

🌐 Website, booking & current destination | ✍️ No standing review; it changes too fast.

All these places are confirmed open as of August 2026, and each one is worth your time.

If any have closed by the time you read this, please let me know. The Inspector’s work never stops.
